Hesto is a single piece of natural marble turned into a smooth, almost perfect globe, with a rounded surface that catches the light all the way around. The cream-white ground is shot through with purple-brown and gray mottling that wraps continuously around the shade, and because the pattern runs through the stone rather than sitting on the surface it shifts as the light moves behind it. A small polished dark metal cap is the only hardware, holding the shade from a fine black cord so the marble is the whole of the object.
At 4.7 inches across the shade is deliberately modest, and the rounded form spreads its light evenly in every direction rather than throwing a tight column. Lit, the stone warms from within and reads as a low, soft point of warm light; unlit it settles into a quiet pale sphere. A touch switch on the fixture turns it on and off without reaching for a wall plate. It works singly, in pairs either side of a bed, or as a cluster at staggered heights.
